Trade #1 (Warriors | Knicks):
I thought this trade was a good place to start. The Warriors received a future championship winner and some quick research revealed the Knicks netted SF Christian Brown from this trade. From there, the Knicks have done a fantastic job building upon this initial trade. A return of Siakam, three firsts, and cash for Jokic ended up being a smart gamble for New York, in large part due to the great drafting that led to Christian Brown. Jokic proceeded to have the worst year of his BSL Career in Golden State, so I don't fault jon for shipping him off after only one season.
Trade #2 (Warriors | Pacers):
This is where I'd start to fault jon, but of course, hindsight is 2020. That 2022 Raptors 1st turned into nothing special (Javonte Smart), and he's built a solid enough squad to diminish the potential value of those 2026 draft picks, but adding to Jokic for Sabonis in a similar trade today would be foolish. The biggest fault Jokic has always been hindered by is his defense. Some refer to him as a turnstile. But I've got to say, is Sabonis much better? Obviously, Sabonis is better on defense, but how much? The Warriors are also currently bottom 5 in terms of points allowed per game. So maybe Jokic would've hurt them even more. Yet, having Jokic's supreme ball-handling skills in the frontcourt would've been the perfecting balancing combination for Norvell. But again, Sabonis isn't far behind. So perhaps it's just personal preference. Lots of back and forth to be talked about these two players.
Trade #3: (Pelicans | Knicks)
This minor deal ultimately ends up fizzling out into more minor deals. Shai left in free agency. The Warriors 22 1st became an afterthought in an already hefty package for Aaron Gordon. Eventually, the Warriors and Knicks themselves ended the movement of the Warriors 22 1st. New York received recent draftee Moussa Diabate and a future 1st in return for Steve Harris. Steve had a good showout in pre-season this year and now finds himself in the D-League. This swap doesn't seem like much but as of now Harris looks like 5 times the player Diabate is. With their drafting success New York should be able to find some value with that Warriors 28 1st though.
Trade #4, 8: (Hawks | Knicks)
Okay this is where it starts to get pretty spicey. If you go back in time you'd find that the Knicks ultimately got PG Kyrie Irving for rather cheap. The headliner of the Kyrie deal was MPJ, so I mean... Ebbs then flipped Kyrie for Bagley and a first, and then Bagley and Reddish for an insane cumulative package. The second trade (8) was too extensive for me to follow further, but its safe to say the Atlanta Hawks do not own their future. I'm not sure if the Knicks still own all those picks, but even if they've moved a few, a handful still remains.
Trade #9: (Hawks | Magic)
If you want to get real down and into it here, you may find that it's possible to connect the acquisition of Pascal Siakam by the Hawks to this final in/out:
Hawks In:
Cam Reddish
Jerami Grant
Magic 24 RTS
Hawks Out:
Like 7 picks or swaps
This is if you make some assumptions. Such that Bagley's value was matched by Brandon Clarke's, WCS, etc. in one of these deals. Also worth noting that Jerami Grant was recently on waivers. So make a few small leaps and you've got the Hawks sending out +6/-1 picks/swaps for Cam Reddish, a Hawks draftee. This situation could get dicey. Or maybe not. Or maybe will.
Knicks recap:
The Knicks turned Jokic (and some other stuff down the line) into a treasure chest of picks, draftees, and GM Cash. Their roster is pretty gutted right now, but as far as I can tell they've got a future star (Christian Brown), some other high hope prospects (Zaire Wade, Cliff Omoruyi), and look to add another top draftee in the coming off-season.
Warriors recap:
Jon didn't do much after he dealt Siakam. He's made a lot of moves around Sabonis since acquiring him, but only recently was Sabonis put on the trading block. It'll be interesting to see if he actually moves, as he appears to be jon's favorite of 3 big men set to combine for $80 million dollars next season. It's a shame that the original deal contained a future Christian Brown, but that's a gamble we all make from time to time. That draft pick could've easily busted like the Raptors 22 and so many other picks that we've seen. Jokic ultimately went on to win a championship and re-signed for a long-term contract on a discount deal. But is the difference between him and Sabonis even that big?
