Nate's Preseason (S4) Power Rankings
The following power rankings are developed via a formula constructed of point differential, rebounding differential, effective field goal differential, turnover differential and net rating. Each category is weighed differentially and then averaged to produce the final score. Once a score is developed, it is placed within one of the following categories:

1. According to our formula, the Orlando Magic are the best team in BSL heading into Season 4. They are the best team in the league when it comes to effective field goal percentage, third in point differential, fourth in both rebounding differential and net rating and fifth in turnover differential. In other terms, they're top five in each of the five statistical categories I took into consideration this week. There isn't much of a weak spot for this team and are one of three 'elite' teams in the rankings.

2. The Miami Heat come in first in net rating and second in both point differential and turnover differential. They are then sixth in effective field goal differential and tenth in rebounding differential. They're not as well rounded as the Magic, but are top two in three-of-five categories. They're top ten in all five. The Heat are obviously a very good team and join the Magic as 'elite.'

3. The Utah Jazz are the third 'elite' team in these rankings. They are the league's best when it comes to point differential and turnover differential. The Jazz are also third in rebounding differential, seventh in net rating and tenth in effective field goal differential. They're must like the Heat where they top of the league in two categories, top three in three and top ten in all five. They finish out our list of 'elite' teams.

4. The San Antonio Spurs and Indiana Pacers come in as 'contenders.' These are two very similar squads. The Spurs are fourth in BSL in both point differential and rebounding differential, seventh in turnover differential, eighth in effective field goal differential and ninth in net rating. The Pacers are second in rebounding differential, fifth in both point differential and effective field goal differential. They are then tenth in turnover differential and 15th in net rating. We'd like to see a bit more out of the Pacers when it comes to turnovers which in turn brings their net rating down. Either way, these two teams are in line for good seasons.

5. The Golden State Warriors are the lone 'fringe contender' in these rankings. They are third in BSL in both effective field goal differential and net rating. The are also seventh in point differential, 13th in rebounding differential and 14th in turnover differential. They need to improve in rebounding and turnovers if they want to turn into real contenders but as the category suggests, they are not far away.

6. The New York Knicks are the lone 'playoff team' in these rankings. The Knicks are third in BSL in turnover differential, fourth in rebounding differential and sixth in point differential. They are however 19th in effective field goal differential and then in turn, 20th in net rating. They need to score more efficiently if they hope to make a deep playoff run. The pieces are there, but is the GM?
