1-Michael Redd- SF 6’6” 220 (22yrs old) B- B C- C+ C B
Redd is clearly the most prolific offensive player in this draft. A lock in for ROY and All Rookie status, he is not only a very safe pick at #1, he has some upside in him. A future All Star if developed correctly by his new GM. Complete package potential on both sides of the ball. Hanks grade 77 (the lower the better
2- Jamal Crawford- SG 6’5” 195 (21) C+ B- C+ C+ C- A
JCraw is very versatile position wise, has the 7th best POT in draft and comes very much ready to plug and play with some growing pains but production from the word Go as well. I almost put him #1 and would have if it were me picking at #1 because of position flexibility and my own teams needs. Hank grade 89
3- Hedo Turkoglu- SF 6-10” 220 (22) C+ B- C- C C A
Hedo slots in here do to his solid base as a scoring wing and 4th best POT. While not a teams main guy, Hedo can be a very solid #2 or 3 option with 2 way play, great size for the position and very good production from the get go. A good GM will coach Hedo up into borderline top 10 scoring #s and solid career. Hanks grade 133
4-Chris Kaman- C 7-0” 265 (19) B- C- D- C+ C+ B
Kaman becomes the 1st Teen off the board here and many could argue for he being #3 or higher. He has a solid Inside game, potential to become a good defender and boardman. From the word Go Kaman will be a starter at the 5 and is a franchise type Big Man. However he needs Star power around him as he is not a stand alone 5 like a Shaq or KG. He is solid just not all league material. Hanks grade 118
5- Drew Gooden- PF 6-10" 250 (20) B- C D B- C+ B
His build coming into the league reminds me of Boozer, if he was 18 he'd be #2 for me. Very solid Pot borderline A so likely 80ish after SL. Gooden is a double/double machine and very nice starter at the 4. If he drops to #5 he is a no brainer at this spot. Hanks grade 109
6- Tyson Chandler- C 7-1" 240 (19) C D+ D- B C A
Chandler is a defensive whiz BIG. He is a teen which helps a lot. BUT buyer beware, you are getting a tremendous defensive player not a scorer here. He is not a 15/10/ 2 guy, but with some luck he might be a 10/13/ 3.5 guy. Think Dikembe type ceiling if the stars align. Best POT and ok 164 Hanks Grade make him a solid gamble here- any higher, buyer beware. Hanks grade 164
7- Ricky Davis- SF 6-7" 195 (22) B- B- C C C- B
Not far behind Redd in letter grades, yet a little further in Hanks grade, but overall Ricky here makes a ton of sense for a team looking at a scoring 3. Davis provides that teasing #9 Pot spot, with a strong, versatile offensive base capable of playing on inside, balance or outside focus teams. Another case of taking productivity vs age here, Davis should be a nice addition to any offense. Hanks Grade 121
8- Tony Allen- SG 6-4" 213 (19) C+ C C- B C A
A 6x All Defensive player in real life Tony could be the most controversial pick here. Blessed with the #3 best Pot in the draft, being a teen and having a Christie type defensive potential almost right off the get go with solid coaching and camps makes him hard for me to drop further than here. As per real life if he can avg his per 36 14 ppg while playing some of the best defense in the league, Allen would be an ideal add to a team with a Superstar looking to add balance to the defensive side, with what could be highly efficiency on offense. Hanks Grade 166
9- David Lee- PF 6-9" 245 (18) B- C- C- C C+ B
I could argue that he and Gooden could swap spots and I or you wouldnt be wrong, (perhaps). As one of the youngest players on the board, with a chance to doubgle boost and with a solid Inside/Board game foundation in place. Lee looks like a very solid Big man. I like Lee a lot, some may regret passing on him, especially if he is here at #9. His pot spot #10 is also very Boozer like indeed. Hanks grade 150
10- Caron Butler- SF 6-7" 228 (21) C+ C+ C- B- C A
Blessed with the 6th best pot a solid offensive base that lends itself to volume and superb Defensive base for the position, Butler reminds me of Anthony Edwards (whom I took at #9) a league or 2 ago. Like Edwards who took 4-5 seasons to flourish into an All Star, Butler could be on a similar path, but in a shorter span (think 2-3 years). I almost took Harris here (teaser he is #11) But hesitated a bit - Stay tuned for my Harris review Part 2. But back to Butler- whomever drafts him is getting a very strong base player with a great chance to be +3 or better 1st time around TC due to his fringy UP grades. Hanks Grade 124
* Note as you can see some of my Grades are higher or lower vs where I rank a player- and if you can believe it my #1 ranked player (with a 64) still not on my top 10 (but he is on my top 20), Age, POT, Build and other factors weigh in on my overall rankings vs top 20 and where I think a player should be drafted. make of it what you want... and please enjoy Chapter 1 ^^^^
