Top Free Agents:
This article takes a look at the top players that could hit the open market this off season as a free agent. This is of course assuming each player on the list chooses to test or the GM declines their resigning offer. I have divided the players into three groups: Bigs, Wings, and Guards. The list is not in order of best to worst, just a list of the 10 players from each group for this upcoming free agent class.
BIGS:
Hassan Whiteside
Hassan Whiteside C 30 7'0'' 265 B- D D- B A D
Hassan Whiteside is the top rebounding big man in this upcoming free agent class. The 30 year old from Gastonia, NC will be due a large pay day for his strength on the glass and as a post defender.
Julius Randle
Julius Randle PF 25 6'9'' 250 B+ C+ C B- B+ C
Julius Randle could have been considered one of the best value contracts in the league last season. For less than 10 mil he put up 18/11/4 on solid shooting splits. At the age of 25 Randle will be due for a max contract from somebody, and it won’t be too bad because luckily he only qualifies for the 0-6 year experience max.
Al Horford
Al Horford C 33 6'10'' 245 B- B C B+ C+ C
Al Horford is the first of many Celtics on this list. The 33 year old is coming off a productive season as the third banana for the Atlantic Division champs. I imagine this next contract for Horford will be his last.
Domantas Sabonis
Domantas Sabonis PF 23 6'11'' 240 B B- C B- B+ C
Domantas Sabonis is the first big man on this list to be coming off his rookie contract. Putting up 16/11/2 on good shooting splits, plus a high greed, Domantas Sabonis is expecting a maximum contract this off season.
Jahlil Okafor
Jahlil Okafor C 24 7'0'' 295 B C- F+ B- B C
The 2018 Sixth Man of the Year is the second big coming off their rookie contract. Okafor was a big contributor to Charlotte’s successful offense this season. With high loyalty and greed I see Okafor staying in Charlotte assuming management is willing to spend the right amount of money.
Tristan Thompson
Tristan Thompson C 29 6'10'' 238 B- C- C C+ A- D
Thompson has made the list for his strength as a rebounder. He’s not a great defender and won’t make an impact offensively, but he will always have value in FBB for his strength as a rebounder. His hometown is Toronto, could the defending back to back BSL Champions lure him home to beef up their already strong front court? We’ll see.
Derrick Favors
Derrick Favors C 28 6'10'' 265 B C D B B- C
Derrick Favors will miss out on an extra five million dollars due to being one year shy of the FBB supermax deal. This is of course assuming someone offers him a max and Favors is my prediction for the yearly who shouldn’t have gotten maxed but did award.
Draymond Green
Draymond Green PF 30 6'7'' 230 C+ C+ B A C+ D
Draymond is always an interesting player build in FBB, and this current build is just funky. His strength is his defense and handling as a big, but his flaws outweigh those strengths. He can’t score with volume or efficiency and can’t rebound effectively as a power forward where he is best suited due to his scoring deficiencies. Ideally Draymond would thrive for a successful team as a super-sub, but he will most likely get paid this off season starter money.
Serge Ibaka
Serge Ibaka PF 30 6'10'' 235 B- B- D- B B- C
Serge Ibaka has a high play for winner and will be looking to join a contender for his 11th season in the league. This does not mean he will take a pay cut though as he also has a high greed.
Montrezl Harrell
Montrezl Harrell C 26 6'8'' 240 B+ C C B+ B- B
The former Louisville Cardinal and Tarboro, NC native big man will be looking for a pay bump this off-season. Harrell only got paid 6 mil this season and put up extremely productive numbers for the Warriors.
WINGS:
Jimmy Butler
Jimmy Butler SF 30 6'8'' 236 B- B C+ A C D
Jimmy Butler is a player whose max contract could turn ugly by years 3-5. With a loss of quickness and strength due to age he could lose his volume as well as his other strengths as a defender and rebounder. Butler is a risky max, but I ultimately see Foreman re-signing him with birds and choosing to “hold off for now” on trading him at any time the next five seasons.
Ben Simmons
Ben Simmons SF 23 6'10'' 230 B D+ A A- C+ B
Another Foreman player, but this one is coming off of his rookie contract. Simmons has extremely high greed and will be looking to sign a max contract this off season.
Jaylen Brown
Jaylen Brown SF 23 6'7'' 220 B- B- C- A- C+ B
Like Simmons, Brown is also coming off of his rookie contract… and like Simmons Brown has high Greed. Could Brown receive a max contract from his hometown Atlanta Hawks? We will have to wait and see if he tests the open market.
Khris Middleton
Khris Middleton SF 28 6'8'' 242 B- A- C+ A C C
Middleton barely qualified for the 7-9 max contract and will be a hot commodity this off season. Middleton is an elite scoring and defending dual threat player who will get paid a max by someone this off season.
Kawahi Leonard
Kawhi Leonard SF 28 6'7'' 230 B B+ C A+ C+ C
It is rumored Kawahi has opted to test the open market as a free agent this off season. With a high value set in playing for a winner, I find it hard to believe he leaves the (2x) defending champion Toronto Raptors for another franchise.
Caris LeVert
Caris LeVert SF 25 6'7'' 204 B B C B+ C C
LeVert realized his hometown was Cleveland so he decided to resign in Golden State for cheap instead of testing the market to potentially go home. IF Golden State does decline, LeVert has one of the highest play for winners in the league and with a low greed / loyalty the right contender might be able to lure him for cheap.
Kevin Durant
Kevin Durant SF 31 6'9'' 240 B+ A B- A- C+ D
IF Toronto fails to win the chip this season I 100% expect KD to sign with the franchise that eliminated the Raptors. Donkey really messed up this file by giving Durant a loyalty of EIGHTY FIVE. EIGHTY FIVE LOYALTY TO KEVIN DURANT. Who approved this
Pascal Siakam
Pascal Siakam SF 26 6'9'' 230 B- B C A- C+ C
Siakam has maximum loyalty but will definitely receive max offers if he tests free agency. Siakam like many others is also coming off his rookie contract.
Jabari Parker
Jabari Parker SF 25 6'8'' 245 B- B C C+ B- C
Parker is one of four former Duke Blue Devils on this list and is also one of four Hornets on this list. He’s been coming off the bench in Charlotte but maybe a team will give him a chance to become a starter this off season.
Brandon Ingram
Brandon Ingram SG 22 6'9'' 190 B- B B- C+ C C
Ingram will get a big contract due to his age and potential. 17 ppg on meh percentages at the age of only 22 will entice many GM’s to throw him a lucrative offer, especially GM’s in a desperate position to compete.
GUARDS:
Kyrie Irving
Kyrie Irving PG 28 6'3'' 193 C+ A- B- C+ C C
Kyrie Irving is easily the best guard to potentially become a free agent this off season. Luckily for Boston, or wherever he lands, Kyrie is only eligible for the 7-9 year experience max.
Jamal Murray
Jamal Murray PG 23 6'4'' 207 C+ A- C+ C+ C- C
Jamal Murray is a young point guard who is coming off of his rookie contract. Murray has high loyalty so I can see him sticking around in Golden State.
Mike Conley
Mike Conley PG 32 6'1'' 175 C B+ B+ B C- D
Conley is 32 but will not be looking to play for a winner, he will most likely be loyal which is his highest. Conley can make an immediate impact for a contender but could also regress heavily over the next few years.
John Wall
John Wall PG 29 6'4'' 210 C+ C+ A B+ C- D
John Wall will be looking to secure another bag with his 100 greed. He will most likely sign with whoever offers him the most cash.
Buddy Hield
Buddy Hield SG 27 6'4'' 214 C+ A C C C- C
Buddy is coming off his rookie contract and makes the list for his scoring alone. Buddy was the 4th best 3 point shooter in the league this past season and could be a top candidate for a GM like I don’t know let me draw a name out of a hat….Greeme.
Joe Harris
Joe Harris PG 28 6'6'' 218 C A C C C C
Like Buddy, Joe Harris makes this list for his scoring/shooting. Harris took just over 200 shots last season in Brooklyn and took over 1000 shots this season as a Pacer. I am interested to see what kind of offers Joe Harris will receive.
Kris Dunn
Kris Dunn SG 26 6'4'' 205 C+ B C A- C C
Dunn has been a backup for the successful Toronto Raptors squad, but this off season he has the chance to sign with a team that will give him the chance to start. Dunn has one of lowest greeds in the free agent class so he might take less money for more playing time.
Kyle Lowry
Kyle Lowry PG 34 6'1'' 196 C B+ B B C- D
Lowry put up 16/4/7 on great splits for San Antonio this season. We don’t get to see playoff Lowry this year as San Antonio missed the playoffs due to tiebreakers, but now the Spurs need to decide if they want to spend the money to retain this 34 year old point guard.
Ricky Rubio
Ricky Rubio PG 29 6'4'' 190 C B A- C+ C- D
Rubio makes the list because he can still get the job done as a passer. Like his role in Washington he is probably best suited to come off the bench for a contending team.
Jeff Teague
Jeff Teague PG 31 6'2'' 186 C B A- C+ D+ C
Like Rubio, Teague makes the list because he can also still get the job done as a passer. Teague has put up PER 36 numbers this season of 15 ppg and 9 apg for Atlanta.
