Our yearly series is back by popular demand. There will be overpays in a down year for free agents, that much is true. Here I will navigate through 5 potential FA who may or may not be overpayed, but who are also more likely to outperform most FA in this class for a fraction of the cost.
PG Johnny Dawkins- Johnny's 2031 season speaks volumes as to what he is capable of, 20ppg/8apg on .476/.825/.442 shooting. Yet gets no respect either playing time or $$. A team like Seattle could welcome Johnny as a 1/2 bench player where it could hide his defensive shortcomings. A team like Pistons could move Hristo for 3 or 4 1sts and turn the keys over to Johnny and watch him build value as Dr J matures. Godfather projected $$ somewhere between MLE and $11.25 mil per on a 4 yr deal
SG Enzo Ruiz- Want a sharpshooting 3 pt specialist with career .448/.780/.423? Look no further than the under utilized Enzo. Why this man has never been given a chance to start at the 1 is beyond me. A developing team could use him at the 1 or 2 in an effort to contend for a playoff spot, a contending club would 100% benefit from him as a 1-2- 3 backup. Versatility and the ability to shoot from the arch make Ruiz a cheap Enis type but with defensive skills. Someone will go beyond $7.5 on a 4 yr deal for his services
SF Janis Timma- Another career .486/.721/.441 efficient Wing with "no respect" I like Janis as a poor man Bouldin type breakout play. I think this 6-7 226 SF can handle the 123 role off the bench and explode if given the chance as an off the bench option. Tanking/Competing/retooling or developing teams need to take a chance on him at some point. Here is ya'll chance at a cheapish say $6.5 mil x 4 yrs FA steal
PF- Charlie Hardnett- I see a tremendous SWING PF/SF value here, a match up type 6th for postseason teams. Charlie can score and play D, rebounding is not his strength, but think 15/8 1 Bpg type with 30 mpg allowance. I've seen Bigs with less talent get upwards of $20 mil per.He shouldnt, in fact I predict him to get BAE type $$ and give a team at any stage of the curve a fantastic player on a 2-4 yr deal.
C- Maik Zirbes- Been trying to acquire this fool for a while, I ain't going to lie. If I had roster space I throw a 4yr max MLE his way. He is a 16/10 1.8 bpg type 30 minute starter with just a little TC luck and coaching, as a non-option. Almost went with Mr Fall here, but all his FA $$ value is tied to his somewhat highish POT remaining and dont perticularly like his limited production/but a team willing to take a flyer on the 7'4" former Lotto and MOVE HIM to Center where I think he improves his game will be rewarded somewhat- for equal $$ I take Zirbes who is a lunch pail poor Osby comp player and as such will seem like an overpay at $12mil x 4 but worth every dollar as he delivers 15/10 1.8 blocks for that team..
Good Luck to all tonight-- Godfather has no Skin on the game
